Volunteering
AYSO 35, like all AYSO organizations, is an all volunteer organization. We all volunteer in at least some capacity to help our players enjoy the best soccer experience possible.

Frequently Asked Questions
When do we register?
Registration begins during the Spring/Summer for the Fall season, and during Fall/Winter for the Spring Season.
Check this website for announcements. If you want to be on the mailing list for notification, please email the registrar@ayso35.org.
How do we register?
The two step process includes (1) Going to www.eayso.org for online registration and (2) Going to Union Church in Cupertino to submit your forms and payment at one of the designated dates and times.
More information on our Registration page.
We turned in our registration, what can we expect next?
Players are contacted a day or two before or shortly after the season's Coach's Meeting (which is listed on our Calendar). If you are not contacted by Wednesday after the Coach's Meeting, email registrar@ayso35.org
After registering, Who will contact us?
Your coach is your first contact but if there are team building issues, then the division manager will send out requests for help. The division manager may send out a status email on the progress of the team build.
When is practice?
Practices are on weekdays, once or twice a week for the U8, usually twice a week for all the older divisions. Times are arranged to be something like 4-5:15 or 5:15-6:30pm during daylight savings time. Daylight standard time shortens the practices to 4-4:45 and 4:45-5:30. The exact day, time and location of practice is selected by team coach. The coach volunteer will fit practice times into his/her own schedule.
How many games do we play?
In Fall there are typically 10+ games for the U10 and up, plus an end-of-season tournament.
I am a new player, what gear do I need to play soccer in AYSO?
AYSO supplies a team Jersey, shorts and socks. Each player will need suitable shoes – preferably soccer cleats (absolutely no baseball cleats), shin guards, and an age appropriate ball. Ball sizes: U8 #3, U10-12 #4, U14-19 #5.
Can my child play up (older age group)?
A child can play up with approval of the RC, Registrar or RCA. Criteria for playing up include: Nearness of birth date to cut off (August 1), the player's previous season's performance as evaluated by the coach, and any special circumstances.
Can my child play down (younger age group)?
There is no playing down except for special cases of a young/small U8 player who feels more secure in the U6 program.
Can we practice at our own school?
As stated above, the location of practice is totally under control of the coach, who typically chooses a location that is most convenient for him. In most cases, the head coach will practice at his/her child's school. So in team building, we try to group as kids from that coach's child's school as possible.
Can we choose our practice day/time?
As stated above, the time and days of practice are dependent on the coach. Since the coach chooses her practice times AFTER teams are built, there is no chance to honor such requests.
Can we request a specific coach?
Most coach requests are honored. The exception is when there are so many requests for a coach that it creates an unbalanced team (in terms of the players' skills).
Can we be on the same team as my friends?
We make every effort to group friends but again team balancing takes priority over friends.
What’s the refund policy?
Players canceling their registration prior to the first practice session will receive a full refund of the registration fee. Players canceling their registration after the first practice session and prior to the second week of scheduled games will receive a refund of the registration fee minus costs incurred by Region 35. Players requesting to cancel their registration after the second week of games will not receive a refund.
I am not sure how I can volunteer with my already busy schedule. Can I buy out?
We do not require volunteering or buying out. We would like to see that everyone contribute some hours per week either at the board level or team level. There are also seasonal events that would require onetime only commitment for the entire season. Whatever the job position, we will train you and in many cases, give you the equipment and attire necessary to do your job.
If you don’t see an answer to your question, please email us at www@ayso35.org.
