Coaching in AYSO is such a wonderful experience. Coaches are the heart of the program.
The rewards come in the form of watching the kids having fun at a game or practice, and watching their individual skills and teamwork improve. There is also a great sense of accomplishment when you look back at the end of a season and see just how far the team has come. And for those who have "serious" jobs, there is no better way to regain your perspective than to watch a bunch of young boys or girls working so hard to master a skill that you have taught them, and to see them having fun doing it.
Although AYSO appreciates and encourages young people to participate in all aspects of soccer, including coaching and officiating, no one under the age of 18 may hold the team coach or assistant coach positions, and must not be allowed to supervise other minors.
They can be encouraged to help at practices - demonstrating skills and drills, for example - only if two trained and certified adults are present at all times.
